Helpful Tips for Housebreaking

Here are a few tips for effective housebreaking:

  • Regular mealtimes. Regular helps your pup to be … regular. Keep your pup on a strict schedule. If it’s not mealtime, food shouldn’t be available.
  • Offer frequent potty opportunities. Give your pup plenty of opportunities to take care of business outside. Go first thing in the morning, and then every half an hour to hour throughout the day, especially after a nap or meals.
  • Go to the same place. Take your pup to the same place outside every time. Your pup will recognize the smell and understand what’s required.
  • Stay until it happens. Stay with your pup until it has taken care of business, or until it’s clear that it doesn’t need to yet.
  • Praise success! When your pup finally goes, offer praise! A healthy treat from Granville Island Pet treatery will work well.
